Zoran Jokic, Chair
As an active member of AWENS since 2012, Zoran has served as Chair of the Board of Directors for three consecutive years. Zoran is the principal owner of Training First Consulting. Serving as Chair of the Board of Directors, he brings over 20 years experience working in the field of Adult Education. As an Adult Educator, he delivers a wide range of topics, such as Leadership, Cultural, Generational Diversity, and Six Sigma.
Paula Greene, Vice Chair
As Vice Chair on AWENS Board of Directors, Paula brings a vast amount of knowledge and experience in board governance. President and CEO of Beyond Ventures Group Inc. she is based in Halifax, N.S. A Certified International Trade Professional (CITP) with a Masters Certificate in Project Management from St Mary’s University, Paula possesses a strong technical background in international business including experience with management of international distribution networks. She has a keen understanding of the international marketplace, supply chain and business development processes. Leveraging her extensive experience in the international business environment, Paula provides professional training and consulting services to private and public organizations with business and market development focus across multiple sectors.
Tanya Burke, Treasurer
Tanya has served as a member of the Board of Directors since 2006. Holding the official position of Treasurer and Chair of the Finance Committee, she has contributed thousands of volunteer hours. She is the Executive Director of East Hants Community Learning Association (EHCLA), which focuses on helping fund and deliver adult learning programs in East Hants. Her guidance and experience as a leader and working in the nonprofit sector is not only an asset to AWENS, but as well to The Association of Nova Scotia Community Learning Organization (ANSCLO), where she also serves as a board member.
Wanda Harbin, Secretary
Serving as Secretary of AWENS Board of Directors, Wanda has over 35 years working in a corporate entity, as a Learning and Development Manager. Her passion and commitment to providing high level adult education training programs to corporate leaders and their staff, allows her to provide a unique perspective as an AWENS board member.
Leigh Faulkner, Ex officio
Having taught at universities around the world and as Vice Principal at various public and private schools, Leigh brings forward a vast amount of experience and knowledge. He is dedicated to the advancement of people working in the field of Adult Education, having volunteered as an International Development worker with World University Service of Canada. He is a published author on Study Skills and has produced a series of online courses. He is a valued member of the board of AWENS and is committed to seeing the organization advance.
Nora has been working in the nonprofit sector for over 20 years. Her experience, combined with over 30 years in small business development and her knowledge of human resources management, makes her a valuable member of the Board of Directors. Nora is the Business Development Officer with the Centre for Women in Business, located at Mount Saint Vincent University.
As the Finance Officer of the Mi’kmaq Economic Benefits Office, in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Irene brings a solid background in finance and economic development to the board of AWENS. Irene is an experienced Adult Educator, delivering Workplace Education Initiative programs to businesses throughout her community. Irene is dedicated to delivering quality training to adult learners as it relates to today’s work environment.
A Nova Scotia native, Caroline is an Associate at Mathews, Dinsdale, Clark. She holds a Juris Doctor from the Faculty of Law and a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology from UNB. While completing her Bachelor of Science, Caroline earned a spot on the coveted Dean’s list, and the honour of becoming a Sir Howard Douglas Society Scholar for her academic achievement and dedicated service to the university and community. Caroline’s focus on labour, employment and litigation makes her a valued contributing member of the Board of Directors.
Dan joined AWENS Board of Directors in 2017. He brings over 40 years experience in the areas of Economic Development and Business Counselling to the board. Having worked in the private and public sectors, Dan is excited to play a role in the direction of AWENS. Since 2009, Dan has been a member of Business Retention & Expansion International (BREI) Organization, where he also serves on the Board of Directors.
