Zoran Jokic, Chair
As an active member of AWENS since 2012, Zoran has served as Chair of the Board of Directors for four consecutive years. Zoran is the principal owner of Training First Consulting. Serving as Chair of the Board of Directors, he brings over 20 years experience working in the field of Adult Education. As an Adult Educator, he delivers a wide range of topics, such as Leadership, Cultural, Generational Diversity, and Six Sigma.
Tanya Burke, Treasurer
Tanya has served as a member of the Board of Directors since 2006. Holding the official position of Treasurer and Chair of the Finance Committee, she has contributed thousands of volunteer hours. She is the Executive Director of East Hants Community Learning Association (EHCLA), which focuses on helping fund and deliver adult learning programs in East Hants. Her guidance and experience as a leader and working in the nonprofit sector is not only an asset to AWENS, but as well to The Association of Nova Scotia Community Learning Organization (ANSCLO), where she also serves as a board member.
Wanda Harbin, Secretary
Serving as Secretary of AWENS Board of Directors, Wanda has over 35 years working in a corporate entity, as a Learning and Development Manager. Her passion and commitment to providing high level adult education training programs to corporate leaders and their staff, allows her to provide a unique perspective as an AWENS board member.
As the Finance Officer of the Mi’kmaq Economic Benefits Office, in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Irene brings a solid background in finance and economic development to the board of AWENS. Irene is an experienced Adult Educator, delivering Workplace Education Initiative programs to businesses throughout her community. Irene is dedicated to delivering quality training to adult learners as it relates to today’s work environment.
Dan joined AWENS Board of Directors in 2017. He brings over 40 years experience in the areas of Economic Development and Business Counselling to the board. Having worked in the private and public sectors, Dan is excited to play a role in the direction of AWENS. Since 2009, Dan has been a member of Business Retention & Expansion International (BREI) Organization, where he also serves on the Board of Directors.
Lisette’s unique and inspiring approach has resulted in collaboratively transforming workplaces across Nova Scotia. Through interactive, relevant, and customized training she has helped shape their teams into healthy, prosperous, forward-thinking groups. Her background includes working with Nova Scotian businesses; twenty years of involvement in the field of adult education, from group and one-on-one instruction in workplaces to the creation of materials for use with adult learners; experience in project coordination and research; Certified Coach Practitioner; holds a Bachelor of Integrated Studies with a minor in Adult Education from UNB; Leadership certification from Renaissance College; education in human services, journalism, leadership, marketing and HR. Lisette is also a life and work skills workshop facilitator.
Jennifer’s mission is to help communities thrive today and tomorrow, by providing assistance to emerging and existing entrepreneurs. Jennifer is a Development Officer at CBDC Blue Water ,with 25 years’ experience in the field of business development, Jennifer proves business consulting, training and financing. Jennifer has worked with several different business development organizations over the past 25 years, allowing her to gain knowledge in many industry sectors and with a variety of marginalized groups.
Jennifer holds a Diploma in Community Development, Certification in International Business and various certificates in business development skills. Jennifer is a proud mom of two amazing young men, she enjoys travel, family time and camping time with her loving husband.
