Zoran Jokic, Chair
With over 20 years experience in training and consulting services, and applying a strong expertise in data-driven, long-term strategic planning Zoran has developed many successful business relationships. Zoran joined AWENS in 2012 and has been providing support for many local businesses ever since. Zoran is the owner of Training First Consulting, a training and development company located in Fall River.
Paula Green, Vice Chair
Paula has over 25 years of experience in international business in both the private and public sectors. She is the Vice-President of Market Pursuits, a marketing and business consultancy in Halifax.
Tanya Burke, Treasurer
Tanya has been an AWENS member and member of the Board of Directors since 2006. Tanya was also actively involved in delivering communications and numeracy programs as a Nova Scotia Workplace Education (WEI) Instructor. Having given countless volunteer hours to AWENS, Tanya continues to hold the official position of Treasurer an Chair of the Finance Committee. In addition to her position on AWENS Board of Directors, Tanya is also a board member of The Association of Nova Scotia Community Learning Organization (ANSCLO) and the acting Director of East Hants Community Learning Association (EHCLA), which focuses on helping fund and deliver adult learning programs in East Hants. Tanya exemplifies the true meaning of a dedicated and committed volunteer. Her guidance and experience working in the nonprofit sector continues to move AWENS forward. We at AWENS are truly fortunate to have her working alongside us.
Wanda Harbin, Secretary
As an AWENS Director, Wanda is motivated to share her expertise, learn from innovative thinkers, and bring her energy and passion to to the organization. Her management skills and experience in a Federal environment and implementation of leading edge programs will be an asset as a board member with AWENS. As a facilitator and manager in the training and professional development field for over 25 years, and an accredited Practitioner for Insights Discovery Learning and Development Atlantic her contribution to AWENS will be valued.
Irene is an instructor at Island Career Academy in Cape Breton. The Academy is dedicated to delivering quality training to students as it relates to today’s work environment.
Nora’s passion is education and self improvement. Her 30 years of experience in research, business, financial management, project development, small business operations, human resources, and economic development, will bring a variety of expertise to AWENS. Nora is Business Development Officer with the Centre for Women in Business, based at Mount Saint Vincent University, Halifax.
Leigh Faulkner, Ex officio
An educator with wide experience. Having taught (all grades from four to twelve) and acted as a vice principal and principal at various public schools and private schools, Leigh brings forward a vast amount of experience and knowledge to the board members of AWENS. He has also been a volunteer as an international development worker with the World University Service of Canada and taught at universities in three other countries, including Japan. He is a published author on study skills and produced many videos on the topic.He holds a Bachelor of Arts in English & Philosophy, a Bachelor of Education, a Master of Arts (Ed.) in Curriculum Development, and a Doctor of Education in Reading Education. Leigh is a valuable member of AWENS through the of sharing his knowledge and contributing as a Board member of AWENS.
A Nova Scotia native, Caroline is an Associate at McInnis Copper and holds a Juris Doctor from the Faculty of Law and a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology from UNB. While completing her Bachelor of Science, Caroline earned a spot on the coveted Dean’s list and had the honour of becoming a Sir Howard Douglas Society Scholar for her academic achievement and dedicated service to the university and community. Caroline has a focus on labour and employment and litigation in her practice and brings an insightful and unique perspective to the AWENS Board of Directors.
