Invest in the Long – Term Growth of the Business

Business leaders need to be allocating resources to developing an effective employee training program. Why? Because it is critical to the long-term growth of the business.

When the expectation is that employees will drive the business towards success, the performance of a business is then aligned with the performance of the employees. This is the most compelling reason why employee training programs need to be developed to ensure employees have the chance to develop skills and knowledge to be productive and contribute to the overall success of the business.

Consider for a moment, if you were to have employees attend a one day, or even a half day workshop on ‘Time Management’, the techniques learned at the workshop could then lead to the employees to be more organized and responsive to deadlines. If each of the employees walked out learning one new time management technique, then the result of the training could be directly linked to increasing the employees’ productivity. Ultimately, this would save the company more money than the company would have invested in the ‘Time Management’ training session for the employees.

How does a business begin to design and develop a training plan for their employees and what courses are needed to increase the productivity of the employees? Is it communication, leadership, customer service or even an inspiring entrepreneurship workshop?

Assessing the current state of an employees’ knowledge and skills is critical. This is done through an Organizational Needs Assessment (ONA).  ONA’s bring forward the actual knowledge and skills gaps of the employees, not perceived gaps.

With the report generated through an ONA, business owners then have a tool to aid in developing a training program that fits the needs of the employees and the organization.

Developing training plans without doing an ONA is like an architect’s building design without the blueprint for the foundation.

Business leaders can go wrong when not establishing clear education and training programs that will support the needs of the employees and the business.

Before investing money in training, invest in an Organizational Needs Assessment to be sure you are investing in the right training.  An effective employee training program will lead to employees contributing to the overall growth of the business, and save money.
